Before the Internet even was, there was Amway.

The first friend who called me with a “business opportunity” wouldn’t tell me on the phone what this lucrative opportunity was, but he was so insistent, we eventually invited him to our house for dessert and discussion.

We were only his second presentation, so it was a bit choppy, but for the first time I heard the concept of Multi Level Marketing.

I’m kind of simplistic and old fashioned, so after hearing about downliners and pay plans, I asked the simple question, “But doesn’t somebody have to sell the soap?”

MLM still exists on the Internet, and there are certainly some people who do very well financially. In this electronic, information laden universe, another system has developed that I call CIS, or Circular Information Selling. This is illustrated by the guru who sells you The Secret of Internet Marketing, and you get to sell to someone else the same thing.

It’s almost like going door to door selling books about “How to Sell Door to Door,” and recruiting your customer to start doing the same thing.

Simply put, to break out of that syndrome, to maintain integrity, you MUST have a genuine product to sell. That product must have value for the customer, and also needs to make a profit for you.

But let’s face it. Marketing on the Internet isn’t like knocking on doors. The electronic abyss is deeper and wider than any neighborhood, so we need to learn new techniques and systems. You can have the best soap or other product, but it your marketing system doesn’t work, your profit will be nonexistent.

The Information Age can easily create Information Overload, and that’s one of the biggest hindrances to learning how to market successfully on the Internet.

There is a way through this Information Jungle, however, and it starts by learning from those who have been successful, even if it involves joining the Circular Information Selling system for a bit.

If you want to grow your business, it can be done in the following way.

*** Decide on ONE thing you will learn, then branch out later.

*** Identify one of the successful gurus who has a successful INFORMATION PRODUCT that will teach you how to market ANY product and make a profit.

*** Follow the directions of the successful marketer totally… and take notes!

*** Apply what you’ve learned to YOUR business venture.

*** Repeat this system with another way of marketing, and KEEP GROWING.

When I first started this online marketing venture, my budget was very limited. I became very friendly with Google and Yahoo search engines as I looked at multitudes of “opportunities,” all of course found in 0.023 seconds!

After two months of searching, About $100.00 of wasted money, I finally found two FREE Systems that provided what I needed. Both gave step–by–step instructions on how to market on the Internet. One was very directed in the area of affiliate marketing, with the intent obviously to become affiliate to market the product I’d just gotten for FREE. Like most free product, you do get the opportunity to upgrade, for a fee, and become more effective. This particular program, to its credit, does that but in a very upfront and high integrity manner. I haven’t done that yet, and I may never, because the information has been extremely helpful. The option still exists to do that upgrade, and if the affiliate system proves to continue to be profitable, I may do that.

The other system I’m using is a series of FREE (I love that word) videos that starts from the very beginning about building a business and following through to giving specifics plans to accomplish the task.

My ultimate goal is to expand beyond the affiliate marketing, and begin to sell my own product, which is a series of books about educational leadership, learning styles and playing your best golf. It’s doubtful I’ll leave the affiliate marketing behind, but I’m looking forward to using what I’ve learned to do my own thing.

So there you have it; start simple, learn, grow… and repeat the cycle.
